Throughly enjoyed it.
By Jedigoddess
This book reads as if you sat down with Gertrude herself for tea and she just starts talking about her life. With a very small degree of tangents the books walks down the timeline of Gertrude's life and journey. If your looking for a serious literary account, this is not the book for you. However if you want a lovely summer read while lying in the sun and sipping a light drink and reading about a woman who was a trailblazer...then this IS for you. Drink umbrella should totally be included.

A GREAT STORY from the 1920s
By Michael Checkley
Gertrude Lythgoe, who died in the late 1960s in Detroit MI, was in the 1920s a remarkable character as she entered into a world dominated by men. She was a rum runner/bootlegger and smuggler operating from Nassau and Bimini in the British Bahamas during American Prohibition. The Bahamas was a British colony and there was no prohibition laws in place there thus it became a springboard for smuggler booze into the southern United states. . Early into American prohibition she entered the fray to make money and the men who dominated the game resented her. But, her tough as nails approach put fear into many and she became very successful. She left the business a wealthy woman and retired to the United States to live off her means. This is her story and its filled with excitement and intrigue. A strong no nonsense focused lady -- that is Gloria's tale. She also speaks of her relationship with the King of the Smugglers "The Real McCoy".
Her portrait hangs to this day in the Bimini Museum at Bimini, Bahamas which was the centre of operations for liquor smugglers during American prohibition.
